Twilight “New Moon” Soundtrack Looks Forking Awesome!

Get it? Forking. Like Forks, Washington. The town in Twilight? Oh whatever.

The “New Moon” soundtrack line up was announced this week, and just like the fans, its grown up a bit. Gone are the Paramores, Linkin Parks, Collective Souls… and in their place, the more edgy and eclectic stylings of Thom York, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the Editors and Grizzly Bear.

Death Cab for Cutie – ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’
Band of Skulls – ‘Friends’
Thom Yorke – ‘Hearing Damage’
Lykke Li – ‘Possibility’
The Killers – ‘A White Demon Love Song’
Anya Marina – ‘Satellite Heart’
Muse – ‘I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)’
Bon Iver and St Vincent – ‘Rosyln’
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – ‘Done All Wrong’
Hurricane Bells – ‘Monsters’
Sea Wolf – ‘The Violet Hour’
OK GO – ‘Shooting The Moon’
Grizzly Bear – ‘Slow Life’
Editors – ‘No Sound But The Wind’
Alexandre Desplat – ‘New Moon (The Meadow)’

The immortal Muse survived from the first soundtrack, which is good because they really did get ripped off with that cheesy baseball scene.

Why New York Is So Cool

Back in the summer of 2004, “New York Is So Cool” (or “N.Y.I.S.C.”) by a short lived musical experiment called X-1 was all the rage. Well, in LA at least. It was played all the time on this brand new LA radio station called Indie 103.1… a station all the hipsters knew would last forever (it didn’t) and change the radio business (it didn’t).

But anyway, this isn’t about LA. “N.Y.I.S.C” is a hipster’s account of “a month long visit/bender” in NYC written by Brian O’Keeffe (check out his comment on Stereogum). And on 9/11, after all the sadness and remembrance, it just seems like a nice time to post this old gem and celebrate some things that make NY so cool. To hipsters on vacay, at least.

Arctic Monkeys Recession-Friendly Cover Art Cost $1

Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"

If one Arctic Monkeys fan somewhere buys one MP3 from their new album “Humbug,” out August 24th, that should cover the cost of the album’s art.

While the UK band recorded their third LP at Joshua Tree in California, they held the DIY “photo shoot” that produced the image.

“It’s a photo I took with a dollar camera. I bought a camera for a dollar while we were in Joshua Tree in the Californian desert. There were film students selling all this stuff off at ridiculously low prices.” Drummer Matt Helders told The Sun. “It’s a bold thing to be on the front of our album, even though we are still slightly disguised.”

I think Weezer would beg to differ:

Band of Skulls: Twilight’s Latest British Import?

Band of Skulls and Robert Pattinson may have more in common than just nationality and disheveled hairdos. The British indie rockers can join the dashing teen idol in thanking Twilight for the generous boost into US stardom. Band of Skulls will join other UK powerhouses Radiohead and Muse on the soundtrack to New Moon which is sure to be pumping in every teen girl’s Prius this fall.

Band of Skulls are far from their epic, high-concept Brit brothers Radiohead and Muse. The most obvious comparisons will be drawn to The White Stripes, with a touch of the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs, and even bluesy overtones that bring to mind The Black Keys or Cage the Elephant. Their challenge will be to maintain some of their distinctly UK atmospheric tone and not become complete clones of the stateside indie blues scene.

All in all, a very deliciously unexpected addition to Twilight… but even if you’re not a sucker for bloodsuckers, suck up some of Band of Skulls “Blood” and don’t hold their vamp ties against them:

Sounds Like Sweden…

I loved the last two albums from The Sounds but I’m kinda mixed on their new single “Dorchester Hotel.”

Download: Dorchester Hotel

I’m not saying I reject it.  I just hope it’s not the BEST their new album has to offer. Crossing the Rubicon is out June 2nd and let’s cross our fingers for more gems like “Hurt Me” which you may recall from this fab commercial:

Nightmare of You’s New MP3 with Factual Title

Who waits 4 years to release their sophomore album? Nightmare of You, that’s who.  The emo-ish dancey boys will release Infomaniac on July 28th and our first taste of it is the single “I Think I’m Getting Older”… which, considering the time gap between their last album and this one, is true of both the band and their fans!
